According to the governor, the nominees were drawn from a list recommended by a Selection Panel established to identify competent and qualified candidates for the vital county board.

Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has nominated seven individuals to serve in the Wajir County Public Service Board, fulfilling the legal requirement under Section 58A of the County Government Act, 2012.

Among the nominees are Abdi Adan Ahmed, who has been proposed as Chairperson, and Mohamed Adow Abdi, nominated as Secretary.

Others nominated to the board include Osman Ahmed Abdi, Farhiya Abdirahman, Siyad Dakat, Ahad Hassan Ali, and Amina Yussuf Mohamed, all proposed to serve as members.

According to the governor, the nominees were drawn from a list recommended by a Selection Panel established to identify competent and qualified candidates for the vital county board.

The panel considered professional merit, integrity, and suitability before presenting its final recommendations to the governor.

Governor Abdullahi emphasized that the nominations are intended to strengthen the functioning of the Public Service Board, which plays a central role in recruitment, promotions, and disciplinary matters affecting county staff.

“The names were nominated from among the names recommended by the Selection Panel constituted for the purpose of selecting suitable candidates for appointment to the Wajir County Public Service Board,” he said in his submission to the County Assembly.

The governor has already submitted the list to the County Assembly of Wajir for vetting and approval.

The governor further urged the County Assembly to fast-track the approval process to allow the board to assume its mandate without delay.

Once approved, the new Public Service Board will be expected to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing human resources within Wajir County.

The Assembly is now tasked with reviewing the suitability of each nominee before giving the final nod.

The County Public Service Board's existence and role in staffing county governments are established under Article 235 of the Kenyan Constitution.

This Article mandates that each county have its own public service and grants the County Public Service Board powers to establish and abolish offices, appoint and discipline public officers, and ensure the promotion of constitutional values in the county public service, including human resource planning and budgeting.
